I've been a bit stressed and anxious lately because we are STILL trying to figure out what is causing the aches and pains Lady Bug is having. The podiatrist has been unable to find a reason for her foot pains so she told us to slowly ween her off of the boot she has been wearing and return to our Dr. for follow up. I go to make an appointment with the Dr. office only to be told by the lady scheduling the appointment that the office will be closing at the end of the month. Annnnnd that is when complete panic sets in...the family will be fine, but me...it causes me much stress because I have some light anxiety issues when I have to see doctors. I get partially paid for insurance through work, and I pay extra to have the company I have so that I can continue with the Dr. and NP that I have been seeing for the last 14 years. Going in is hard enough personally so feeling familiar with the office is a big thing with me. This is a huge issue for me that I stressed over for a couple of days and with the help and advice of some friends I finally picked a new office for the family and contacted the insurance to change offices and groups.
We go to the appointment to see our current Dr. and he tells us that the office is not closing till the end of the year. It doesn't seem like a huge deal since it is only a month difference except that he wants her to have some PT for 6 weeks, but we will only be able to go for about a week or two (I'm thinking week because of the holidays) and then we will have to stop, see the new Dr and see what they have to say.
The one positive that I am taking from the whole thing is switching doctors is kind of like having a second opinion. I can see at our next and last appointment with our current Dr. what he thinks after doing another blood draw and slight PT (not as much as he would like, but hey it is what it is). Then when we see the new Dr. and see if they agree or feel it is something different. It seems like after being drawn out for so long he seemed to have an idea of what might be going on. Part of it he thinks is from tightening up of some of the leg muscles plus with wearing the boot took the pain from minor to major. Though he couldn't tell us yet why that is happening at least it's more than anything we knew before. Up until now it's been a lot of getting Xrays, a blood test and an MRI and TONS of wait and see. All that I have seen is that her pains are getting worse, so I would really like some answers.
One of the ways I deal with stress is I cook or bake. I've recently picked up a new crock pot and rolling pin because I felt I realllllly needed them! Haven't used either much, but with the crock I have made both fresh chunky applesauce and a very yummy potato chowder. I used the rolling pin while making french and garlic bread from scratch to go with the chowder.
I've also been doing a lot of baking because we never got around to carving our Halloween pumpkins. I know sugar pumpkins are better for baking, but you really can use any pumpkins some will just have a stronger taste. Some of the things we have made is pumpkin oatmeal, pumpkin swirl bread, pumpkin bread and a pumpkin marble cheesecake.
I also baked a cake for Lego Boy's birthday then helped him frost it and let him decorate it. The day before his birthday I took him to the store and let him pick out all the stuff he wanted to use. I used a box mix for this one because that is what he really wanted, though he knows I make good food from scratch as well. He really wanted one of those confetti or rainbow chip cakes with rainbow chip frosting. It's his birthday so if that's what he wants that is what he gets! Same with letting him decorate it, in the past I have had a job working in a deli/bakery and was trained to decorate cakes to help fill in when the bakery staff was short staffed. It was sooo hard, it felt like he was attacking the cake. I just had to take a deep breath, step back and let him go for it since he was having a blast!
Yesterday we did our second Saturday of Scouting for Food with our Cub Scout Pack. It was pick up day which was fun and interesting. The boys had a blast and it was soo funny watching them work as a team together! They would see a bag of food and shriek FOOOOOD as loud as they could and then they would all join in. Once you stopped they would jump out two running to get the food, one opening up the back hatch then they would all climb back in yelling go go go.
I took a long four day weekend and kept busy with appointments, birthday stuff and everything else so I thought today I would sit and relax. Hahaha! Nope, today I wound up digging into some of my plastic containers and sorting through them. Ohh the nostalgia! I actually got a lot done in a short amount of time and almost enjoyed myself. I really hate cleaning, either I clean because I have to and it makes me cranky or I am cranky and that is what is making me clean. I did enjoy finding things I had forgotten about. A few pictures and I was loved finding some of my rocks and showing hubby. I forgot how many rocks I really have. I need to find a creative way to do something with them. I hate that they just sit around in boxes and plastic bags.
If you have any great ideas for how to display various smaller sized rocks let me know in the comments!
